Understanding Home Care
Understanding Home Care
Care can be a sensitive topic and the thought of receiving help and support from others can often feel a little daunting.
This is why at Intrust Care we want the whole process to be as smooth, transparent and reassuring as possible. Our team is here to help you understand home care and answer any questions you have, however big or small.
Understanding home care
Home care is a viable alternative to having to move into a care home and allows you to keep maximum independence, in familiar and comforting surroundings. The phrase “There’s no place like home,” exists for a reason and at Intrust Care we are passionate about providing high quality care to you, in the home environment you love.
Home care can be as little or as often as you like – sometimes as little as an hour, or if you need a higher level of support, our carers can offer 24-hour live in care. This entirely depends on your independence level, the type of support required and your personal preferences. There are many different types of services that home care can provide. You can find out more about our full range of services by visiting our services page.
Your care journey
Your care journey will start with a thorough assessment of your preferences and needs. It is from this assessment that a personalised care plan can be created for you. We’ll see what kind of activities you can do, where you need help, and how much help you want. Every person is different and we know a one size fits all approach doesn’t work. We make sure you are happy with your care plan, and we will work with your GP, District Nurses and other members of your wider team, helping you to get the best care possible.
Preparing for homecare
Before your home care assessment it is important that you and your loved ones sit down and discuss the type of care that you think you need, and any questions that you may have. We recommend writing these questions down prior to the meeting, as it’s sometimes difficult to remember them all during the assessment. Don’t worry if there is something you forget to ask, our team at Intrust Care are always happy to help. Call us on 01908 380 600 if you have any further queries, or need any additional information. You can also visit our FAQs page.
We also suggest having a think about any additional help or adjustments that you may need. This might be adjustments to the house (such as grab rails, or a wet room), or equipment you think would help e.g. a hospital bed, or a specialised wheelchair. If you have not had any input from Occupational Therapists or Physiotherapists before, we can make sure you are assessed for any additional support, or equipment that would help. Even if you have been seen by these teams previously, if your care needs have changed we can help to arrange a review with them. Making sure that you get the personalised care you deserve, will always be our priority.
